The Last Day

Writer: Katherine MarkerKatherine Marker

My breath grows shallow. My eyes are heavy with the weight of this world.

You kneel next to me; your hand firmly but gently cradles mine. Your gentle smile calms me.

My lungs shudder. Suddenly, electricity courses through my heart and the air is thicker than I remember.

Your smile grows more glorious, and you become more beautiful as I rise to meet you.

My knobby hands and feet have melted away into your radiant reflection.

My eyes can see you in all your glory. I never knew such color existed!

Your laugh reaches my new ears. So, this is your voice!

What was is gone. Behold, the new life has begun.
